Understanding electricity rate changes in July 2026

Electricity rates traditionally change in Australia each year. The changes reflect the changing costs to produce electricity, distribute the electricity through poles and wires, retailer costs, and the cost of renewable energy programs. If you’d like to do a deeper dive, here’s where you’ll find all the answers.

Your plan changes

In July 2026, we're updating the rates for Battery Ease, Community Battery Ease, and EV Night Boost. For some Battery Ease customers, there are also changes to the tariff structure itself, not just the rates. You'll receive an email before any changes occur in July with the specific rates that apply to your plan and network.

Battery Ease

Your usage rates and the times they apply are changing. The exact rates and times that apply to you depend on your distribution network and will be set out in the email outlining the changes.

The feed-in tariff is also changing. Under the new structure:

  • 8c/kWh for the first 10 kWh you export to the grid each day

  • 3c/kWh for any export above that daily threshold

Community Battery Ease

Your usage rates and supply charge are changing. The exact rates that apply to you depend on your distribution network and will be set out in the email outlining the changes.

The feed-in tariff is changing to 3c/kWh.

EV Night Boost

Your usage rates and supply charge are changing. The EV Night Boost Super Off-Peak rate of 7c/kWh and the times it applies (midnight to 6.00am) aren’t changing.

The exact rates that apply to you depend on your distribution network and will be set out in the email outlining the changes.

The feed-in tariff is changing to 1c/kWh.

When will electricity rates change?

Rates for our Battery Ease, EV Night Boost and Community Battery Ease plans, including solar feed-in tariff rates, are changing in July 2026.

New customers who sign up on or after 1 July 2026 will have the new rates applied straight away. Existing customers and new customers who sign up before 1 July 2026 will have price changes applied on:

  • 9 July 2026 for Battery Ease
  • 17 July 2026 for EV Night Boost
  • 24 July 2026 for Community Battery Ease.

Why do electricity rates change?

There are many factors that can impact electricity rates. Wholesale, network, retail and Government and other costs make up the bulk of every energy bill. If you’d like to do a deeper dive, here’s where you’ll find answers.

In NSW, our Standing Offer Home electricity plan is equivalent to the Default Market Offer (DMO) for selected tariff types in NSW, which is set and reviewed by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) annually and usually changes each year in July. We review our standing offer electricity rates around this time.

Our Market Retail Contract plans are energy plans that may include discounts, rebates or other benefits.

Where can I see my new rates?

We’ll let you know about your new rates by email (or letter, if we can’t contact you by email). Your new rates will also be reflected in your first bill after the rate change date.

Will the rate change increase my electricity bills?

The cost of your bill with your new rates will depend on your electricity usage and the distribution area where your home is located. If you're already a customer, you’ll receive an email to let you know about the rate change which will include your old and new rates.

Will my concessions be changed or affected?

No, if you’re eligible for a concession, it won’t be impacted. Find out more about the concessions currently available in New South Wales, or view our concession FAQs for more information.

If you haven't applied your concession card to your account, please give us a call on 1800 108 633 and have your New South Wales Concession Card ready.

What if my bill covers a time before and after the rate change?

All rates and charges before and after the change will be detailed on your bill.

On your bill, you’ll see:

  • your old rates and any charges for the billing period before the rate change date
  • your new rates and any charges for the billing period after the rate change date

How do I keep track of my electricity usage and bills?

The best place to keep track of your electricity usage and bills is through your user account. You can log in anytime to view your current and past bills, check your usage, and update your credit card details.

How can I compare your other plans?

For homes with solar and battery, an EV or near a community battery, please visit our dedicated website. If you’d like to compare our residential energy plans, you’ll find them here – just enter your connection address.

I'm thinking of joining/I’ve just joined EnergyAustralia. Will the rate changes affect me?

When you join EnergyAustralia, we send you a Welcome Pack with all the important information, such as the energy plan details and current rates. You’ll be charged these rates until the rates change.

What do you mean by electricity rates?

The rates used to calculate your electricity bills are made up of both usage rates and supply charges.

  • Fixed daily service charge – a fixed daily service charge to supply energy to your home.
  • Usage rates – rates charged for the energy you use. Some tariffs have different usage rates depending on the time of day, day of the week and time of year you use energy.
  • Controlled load – also called dedicated circuit, refers to electricity being used by a stand-alone item, like an electric hot water service, electric slab heating or an irrigation pump. Controlled loads are recorded separately.

Rates are also known as tariffs. For more information go to our residential tariff page.

I have my gas with EnergyAustralia – will these rate changes apply to me?

Because you're on one of our specialised products (Battery Ease, Community Battery Ease or EV Night Boost) and have a gas account with us, you have two accounts. These rate changes only apply to your electricity account. For your gas account, we'll send you a separate letter of any rate changes that apply to you.

Will my feed-in tariff change?

Yes, if you’re on our Battery Ease, Community Battery Ease or EV Night Boost plans and you receive a feed-in tariff, it will change in July 2026. We'll contact you before the change takes effect with your current and new feed-in tariff.

Will my Virtual Power Plant credits be affected?

No. If you're on Battery Ease, your VPP credits aren't changing at this time. If anything changes in the future, we'll let you know in advance.

I’m on EV Night Boost. Is my overnight rate changing?

No – the Super Off-Peak rate and time isn't changing right now. If anything changes in the future, we'll let you know in advance.
